All original, even down to the fabric, this pair of mid century German Bartholomew cocktail chairs came from an estate outside of NYC. They were brought to the States in the 1950's from Germany and have been lovingly used by one family since.
These chairs are typical of the style and design from this post-war East German era of the mid 1950s. The upholstery is an original matched in style 50's heavy linen/cotton like fabric and were intended to be used together in the space as a pair. Perfect candidates for a decorating project or use as is and admire their original design.
The shape of the back flaring out from the bottom towards the top is the style known as a Bartholomew chair. They are also what is known as scallop backed chairs due to the shape of the back where it is upholstered in sections. They are in original used condition. The light orange chair has leg repairs at the point of dowel to base (re-glued, not broken.) This chair also has an odd hole in the front fabric as shown. There is fading to both the upholstery and welt. The light blue/grey chair has fading and evidence of leg re-glueing as above. The back rest is slightly rocky from the base. Two back rest welts are missing. Original finish to tapered wood legs with some wear typical from use and age.
