A great looking mid century credenza or cabinet made by iconic mid century furniture maker Widdicomb in the Hollywood Regency Asian style. Flank some gorgeous lamps and hang a painting or a mirror above this piece in your hall, living room or dining room. Wow!
Here's it's story! It started it's life off as a stereo cabinet/console, decades before we had IPhones, Sonos or even "stand alone stereos." This piece is titled "The 460" Oriental." "Bentley - Widdicomb Decorator Series."
All components were hidden inside cabinets, such as this one. This piece is taking on new life as a credenza or storage cabinet. Maybe even a bar! We love it's Hollywood Regency and Chinoiserie style. Heavy wood case. Original dark wood finish - Not black, but a deep rich brown. The gilt/gold painted emblems on it's front are not metal but painted wood.
The top has an old lift lid section (top 1/3 on right) where the record player used to be. it is hinged and opens to reveal storage. Place some bar ware or other service items in here for storage. The front of this piece has two doors. The left a double hinged door. The right a single door. Inside is storage and a pullout drawer that is dovetailed.
The original Widdicomb label is inside the drawer. There is also a label on the backside of this piece. The cabinet was titled "The "460" Oriental Bentley - Widdicoimb Decorator Series Stereo Console.
The original wood finish through out the piece has some surface wear such as small scratches and a few dings, typical from age and use. The lift top storage area has hinges that are worn and a bit loose/cracked. The backside has the original bump out that housed the components. Since it does not show, we are leaving that as is. The interior has some surface wear but is good as is. The bump out on it's back is about 3" deep, making the total depth 19.5 plus 3" = 23.5" total.
