Mid Century Raoul Dufy Gouache Print - Ascot - Preparing for the Start, 1935
Wonderful images of parties and horses at the track by listed artist Raoul Dufy. Titled Ascot- Preparing for the Start, 1935.
This piece is a mid century (likely 1950's) print and recreation of the original gouache painting that was originally painted in the 1930's. We love looking at the incredible detail and all of the action taking place. The print appears to be a high end print which creates the illusion of the original brush strokes. The original exhibit label that was adhered to the backside when the piece was found is now in a pocket on the reverse. It reads New York Graphic Society Greenwich, CT. See below print paper description.
In it's original black wood frame behind glass with a new mat. Colorful and fun with so much detail. Pardon the reflections on the glass in the photography. (Dufy 1877–1953 )
See photos- When the print was removed from the frame for a new mat and back, we discovered the original paper had been glued to a harder paper board. The original mat was also glued in areas to the front side of the paper. The professional framer removed the old mat and discovered inscriptions and other details (see photos.)
Frame 33" W x 27" H Print estimate size where it shows from front is 25.75" W x 19.75" H. The actual print paper size is larger behind the mat.
Frame has some wear and surface marks, small tiny scratches etc. The print, as described earlier, has paper wear to surrounding edges. The printed image area is in good condition. Some yellowing to the paper.
