Early French Horse Race Painting
The movement of the horses and the interesting forms of the spectators bring this old painting to life. By the colors of the flag, the painting may be French. You can imagine the excitement as the horses race by. Could it be an image of the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe? The technique is very well done.
The painting is on a mat like thin board, similar to thick paper. We love the technique of black to create the forms of people, horses and buildings.
Signed AB lower left corner. We believe that the painting was framed at one point in time. there is a yellowing shadow on the upper portion, perhaps where the painting slid behind the matte or glass of the original frame. We have not tried to restore this piece. Sold unframed.
