Every once in awhile you find a chair and a matching ottoman and you swoon over the details, the color, and the form. This chair and ottoman came straight from a large home in Westchester County , NY. It was lovingly used by a single owner for decades and presided in a room with a lot of sunlight and life.
The chair and ottoman are made from heavy wood frames with the original off white and green painted carved legs that read French in style. The frames are strong and in very good condition with minor surface wear.
The green velvet is faded in an almost perfect way yet has some spots where the fabric has worn through. Use as is and tend to/stabilize the areas where the fabric has been worn. The chair is in better upholstery and cushion condition than the ottoman, with some wear to arms from use and age. The removable chair seat cushion is a bit stiff but still useable. The backside of the chair has a most unusual "handle" which allows the seat back to recline. There is a mechanism in the interior of the chair which is metal and makes the chair heavy.
The ottoman cushion is stiff around the edges. The fabric is worn through exposing the interior cushion as shown in the photos. The ottoman is usable as is but the fabric might be able to be stabilized with some TLC. The interior cushion is hard around the edge yet soft in the middle.
The green velvet is original and has a lot of patina and wear (character) The interior cushions of both the chair and ottoman have become a bit stiff and hard typical from age and sunlight. Honestly there is a way to use the chair and ottoman as is if you love it enough and do some minor work to stabilize the fabric. The frames are also good candidates for re-upholstery.
